Washington, D.C. – The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Congressional Staff Association (CSA) elected its first bipartisan Board of Directors, with Robert Edmonson as the organization’s new president. This would be the first bipartisan Board of Directors in at least a decade.

“The LGBT Congressional Staff Association’s newly elected board of directors, with its strong diversity adding more bipartisanship and more people of color, reflects our commitment to ensuring all members of the LGBT community have a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive Hill family,” said Edmonson, incoming President of the LGBT Congressional Staff Association.

“It has been an honor to serve as president of the LGBT CSA and on the board for 4 years. This organization has shaped both my career and my personal identity in extraordinary ways, and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to have been able to give back,” said Todd Sloves, outgoing President of the LGBT Congressional Staff Association. “I am particularly glad we increased diversity and bipartisanship over the past 4 years and look forward to the new board’s continued work on this.  I’m so glad to see such a diverse group of people take over to lead the organization and want to give a hearty congratulations to my very capable friend, Robert Edmonson, who is more than deserving of this new role. I wish him and the entire board all the best and look forward to supporting them as an active member of the LGBT CSA.”

The newly elected Board of Directors is composed of eight members, one Republican and seven Democrats. The Republican board member, Jayson Schimmenti, was elected to be the Professional Development Director, who will be responsible for carrying out all career development activities. Schimmenti will play a vital role in growing the CSA’s Republican membership. Through this position, Schimmenti will provide an even better opportunity for Republican LGBT staffers and interns build professional connections within the Republican Conference.

The LGBT CSA is a non-partisan, officially sanctioned organization in the U.S. House of Representatives whose mission is to advance the interests of current and prospective LGBT staff as well as promote professional development opportunities.

The LGBT CSA has previously held successful events year-round on Capitol Hill in 2017, including marching in the Pride Parade, 10 happy hours, nine Republican/Queer People of Color/Women Centered Events, five Speaker Series, three Speed Networking Sessions, and two Ice Cream Socials.
