LGBT Congressional Staff Association Announces New Board of Directors for 2017

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Congressional Staff Association (CSA) announced today that its membership has elected its new board of directors for 2017, with Todd Sloves serving as the organization’s president. A picture of the new board, along with biographies, can be viewed here.

"I am humbled my colleagues have chosen me to serve as the LGBT CSA's president," said Sloves. "As a New Yorker, I thought I was ready for anything when I came to D.C., but it was the LGBT CSA that really made it home. I arrived on Capitol Hill six years ago uncertain of my career prospects and even more uncertain about my sexuality. I could never have imagined I might come to lead the organization that has so crucially shaped my career, and I look forward to expanding on the progress we made under Mitchell Rivard's leadership. We're grateful for his service to our association, and I know I have big shoes to fill. As we welcome staff arriving to work for new members of Congress, we want to continue serving as a welcoming space for LGBT individuals of both parties and all backgrounds. We'll work to provide opportunities to advance their careers and make the Hill feel more like home, just like the CSA has done for me.”

“We have accomplished so much together, but I’m most proud that we’ve made the LGBT Congressional Staff Association a welcoming and safe space for everyone. I am also grateful to our members, the LGBTQ staffers serving on Capitol Hill, who make our organization what it is today – a place to meet new friends, get career advice and participate in exciting events. While I will be leaving the board after four years, including two years as president, I am looking forward to continuing to be an active member in the coming years ahead and seeing what the new board accomplishes,” said Mitchell Rivard, the outgoing President of the LGBT CSA.

The LGBT CSA is a non-partisan, officially sanctioned organization in the U.S. House of Representatives whose mission is to advance the interests of current and prospective LGBT staff as well as promote professional development opportunities.

The LGBT CSA has previously held successful events year-around on Capitol Hill, including a Hill-wide vigil and moment of silence following the shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Fla., a special tour of the Smithsonian Museum’s collection of artifacts related to LGBT history, a hike at Great Falls National Park, and a resume workshop for interns and junior staff.
